Make Your Own Market Basket

The market basket is a classic design known for its wide, open shape and sturdy handle. Perfect for carrying produce, flowers, or everyday essentials. Keeping with tradition these baskets will be offered with the addition of colored reed. The weaving is both practical and pleasing to the eye, with clean rows and a balanced form. Whether used at a local market or displayed at home, the market basket is a beautiful blend of craftsmanship and everyday use. Finished basket will be approximately: 12 inches by 6 inches at the top (11 inches by 6 inches at the base) and 4 inches tall not including the handle.

About Instructor:
Reta Hogsed has over 40 years of experience in basket weaving. She has been deeply rooted in the traditional Southern Appalachian style, while also bringing her own creative interpretation to each piece. Reta enjoys working in a variety of styles, including Nantucket baskets, split white oak baskets, and double-walled designs. Her passion lies in preserving traditional basketry techniques and passing them on to others. Over the years, Rita has had the opportunity to teach at local community colleges and for various groups, sharing both the skills and the joy of basket weaving. Rita loves helping others discover the satisfaction of creating something beautiful and functional with their own hands.
