Farewell to Jack Dugan

The Stones River NB Crew invites our artillery family to join us for a special cannon firing to say farewell to one of the founders of our NPS historic weapons program, Jack Dugan.

Jack began working for the National Park Service as a seasonal law enforcement Ranger at Yellowstone National Park. He was particularly proud of his work in law enforcement, and he fondly recalled many stories from his time in that capacity to those close to him. In 1968, he transferred to Morristown National Historic Park, the first National Historic Park in the United States, where he worked as an interpretive ranger and instructor in black powder weapon courses. In 1976, he moved south with the NPS to Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historic Park and remained there until 1987. He was actively involved in advancing military history and living history within the NPS during his service in that agency.

We're honored to be able to give Jack an NPS historic weapons send off by firing a portion of his earthly remains in a ceremony that will be led by another legend of our program, Daniel A. Brown. Members of our crews who knew Jack will have first choice at serving on the crew.

Following the ceremony, we will gather at a local eatery to share food and fellowship as we remember Jack and all of artillery family members who have gone ahead of us to Fiddler's Green.
