Producer, Director, Compère: Atul Date

Indian music finds expression through various categories of popular music, which enjoy mass appeal. These include works available in several regional languages. This thematic presentation has been designed to showcase the gems of poetry and music available in the Marathi language.
The term bhav relates to emotion, and aptly, the genre of bhavgeet refers to songs depicting myriad shades of human emotions brought forth through an aesthetic blend of poetry, melody and rhythm. With poetry at its core, it connects with anyone who understands the language.
In the realm of the Marathi language, songs were specially written by renowned poets like G. D. Madgulkar and Mangesh Padgaonkar, with a purpose of setting them to tune to be sung. These bhavgeets have been extremely popular and the genre is regarded as an alternative to film music. The rise of the genre inspired not only songwriters but also music directors, singers and recording labels like HMV that had commercial success from its popularity.
For the last several decades, veteran composers like Shrinivas Khale, Sudhir Phadke, Yashwant Deo and singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Anuradha Paudwal and Suman Kalyanpur have entertained Marathi audiences with enthralling bhavgeets.
The event is planned to celebrate the momentous journey of the bhavgeet, and especially remember the evergreen song titled ‘‘Shukratara’, immortalised by accomplished singers, Arun Date and Sudha Malhotra (a non-Marathi speaking singer).
Well-known singers Mandar Apte, Ketan Patwardhan and Pallavi Pargaonkar will present a variety of songs including the title song and bhavgeets that have ruled the hearts of music-loving audiences.
