Echoes of Ghoongroos - Katha Kathak Ki

Conceived by renowned Kathak exponent Uma Dogra, this performance celebrates the living legacy of Kathak, a dance form born from storytelling and refined into one of India’s most expressive and dynamic classical traditions.

Derived from the Sanskrit word katha (story), Kathak began as the art of the kathakar—storytellers who shared tales of gods and heroes through gesture, rhythm, and song.
 

Conceived by renowned Kathak exponent Uma Dogra, ‘Echoes of Ghungroos’ celebrates this timeless tradition, a dance form that has transformed from devotional storytelling into a refined expression of grace, rhythm, and artistry. Shaped by the principles of the Natyashastra and Abhinaya Darpana, Kathak stands today as a sophisticated dialogue between movement and emotion.

Featuring Vishal Krishna from Banaras, Souvik Chakraborty and Anukriti Vishwakarma from Lucknow, and Vishvadeep from Jaipur, the performance brings together the distinctive styles and spirit of each gharana, tracing the dance’s evolution through the centuries. ‘Echoes of Ghungroos’ is both homage and revelation, a rhythmic journey that honours Kathak’s origins while celebrating its enduring resonance in the modern world.
