Aurelien Pascal (cello) & Julian Libeer (piano)

A breakthrough instrumental soloist, Aurélien Pascal studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and participated in masterclasses with János Starker, Gary Hoffman and Gautier Capuçon. He is a prize-winner at the Navarra, Paulo, Queen Elisabeth competitions, and has won the first prize at the Feuermann Competition of the Berlin Philharmonic. As a soloist, he is invited by numerous international orchestras and has shared the stage with renowned musicians including Alexandre Kantorow, Liya Petrova, Renaud Capuçon and Augustin Dumay. His recordings include Franz Danzi’s Cello Concerto, as well as works by Brahms, Schubert, Ravel, Nino Rota and Enesco, in collaboration with Dumay, Henri Demarquette and others.

Julien Libeer studied with Jean Fassina, Daniel Blumenthal and Maria João Pires, and is an associate artiste of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where he also specialised in chamber music. In 2008, he was presented with the Juventus Award for being the most promising young European soloist and was later named Young Musician of the Year by the Belgian Music Press Association. As a soloist, he has performed regularly with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Brussels Philharmonic and the Belgian National Orchestra. An accomplished chamber musician, he has worked with Pires, the Danish String Quartet, Paul Lewis, Samuel Hasselhorn and Lorenzo Gatto. Highlights of recent seasons include invitations to the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, the Elbphilharmonie and the Steinway International Concert Series in Cardiff.

The programme for the evening includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy and Fauré.
