NJ Qualification Overview
NJ requires a safety and legal briefing (no written test), plus a live-fire qualification:
For the NJ Qualification:
Demonstrate safe handling, loading/unloading, and drawing
80% hits (40/50 rounds) on FBI Q target at distances from 3–15 yards
No coaching during qualification—this is a higher standard than NY permits
Important: This is a pass/fail (“Go/No Go”) test. Safety violations or failure to meet standards will result in disqualification without refund or certificate.
Need More Practice?
If you’re not confident in your skills, we strongly recommend additional training. We offer courses to help you prepare to pass and improve your proficiency.
Next Steps
After successful completion, you’ll receive a qualification certificate to submit with your NJ and/or CT application. All permit applications must be filed by the participant—we’ll provide step-by-step guidance.
