The 2025 Oregon Inlet Challenge will be run on August 9th! The total trip from Pungo to the breaks outside Oregon Inlet and back is 150 miles!
After a 15-year hiatus, the challenge returned in 2024.
This is an excellent event and I promise it to be a real challenge and fun reward. Most have come back, few have complained (about the difficulty), but nobody has ever had a bad time.
DETAILS:
THIS IS A REAL CHALLENGE....This is a ride at your own risk and all drivers should be at least 21 years old. If you are planning on bringing a passenger realize this is a VERY long hard ride.
NOTE: We will be leaving and returning to Pungo Ferry Landing Park. 2290 Old Pungo Ferry Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457.
This is a free event and is open to everyone. (Even the people that just show up as friends)
There will be an optional raffle registration that will include tickets and a swag bag. Price and charity are TBD. You do NOT have to participate in the Raffle to ride the challenge. The RIDE is FREE and we will ride together!
Things I want to emphasize:
THIS IS A RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
- You must have a reliable ski! (you will be towed to the nearest ramp)
- You must have a back-up plan! (spouse/friend can get your trailer if needed, for pickup in case of ski failure - take cell number).
- Please do NOT bring old skis with small fuel tanks (No sp's, zxi, Blasters) you should have at least a 12-gallon fuel tank. (up to 45miles)
- I don't recommend people bring youth or load a ski up with more than one person.
- Bring cell phones, sun blockers, water, food, money for gas or food.
- Recommend biker shorts to prevent saddle sores, in rough conditions.
- Extra oil.
This is a 6–8-hour ride depending on the conditions!
FYI: The time estimates are based on an average speed of 35MPH. However this speed is rarely maintained, most of the group seems to run at bursts of better than 50-60MPH speed on permitting waters. So, people who are not comfortable at high speeds may not want to ride.
Hope you still have the desire and commitment to go!
Riding PWC in a large, organized group event is the best way to express the freedom of a PWC. 🤙🏽
