You are invited to Kwiaht's 7th annual Camas Festival on Saturday
October 25th at the Stevens Center of the Padilla Bay National
Estuarine Research Reserve from 12pm to 3pm.
This event is hosted by Kwiaht for the Indigenous Plants Forum and
local community, everyone is welcome!
The Indigenous Plants Forum is brought together by Rosie Cayou-James and coordinated by Ginger James, gathering Tribal and non-Tribal stewards of culturally significant plants to preserve, grow, and share traditional native plant skills and protect plant habitats.
The camas festival is a celebration of our annual food camas harvest
and an opportunity to try diverse dishes made with garden grown camas (Camassia leichtlinii).
This year's camas festival will feature a presentation on Coast Salish
camas culture revitalization by Sam Barr of the Coast Salish Youth
Coalition and a panel discussion of camas cultivation and ecology.
The festival is a potluck! Bring dishes that will go well with camas,
or contact Madrona (
bWFkcm9uYSB8IGt3aWFodCAhIG9yZw==) for some dried or cooked camas to add to your potluck dish. Please bring your own plates and utensils and anything you need to be comfortable.
If you would like to help with the camas harvest on Lopez (which will
be on Monday the 20th or Tuesday the 21st) please reach out.
This is as much as possible a Covid-19 safe event, extra KN95 masks
will be available, and if you are feeling unwell please stay home and
take care of your health.
