The Highlander

The Highlander is back with lots more journey dates for 2025!
Services this year will begin from the 4th of May and operate every Sunday with the exception of a few dates where special events have been planned.
In addition, Highlanders will operate on the Fridays of the the July and October South Australian School Holidays!
Trains will depart Mount Barker at 9:30pm and 2pm for two return trips to Strathalbyn.
You can also begin your journey in Strathalbyn with the 11:30am departure and take a return trip to Mount Barker.
Tickets for each Highlander are available online up until midnight Friday before departure.
If there are any remaining tickets, these will be sold onboard the train from our baggage car.
Seating is allocated by our volunteer team, so if you are going as a larger group please contact our booking team to let them know prior to the departure date.
Services will be operated by Diesel or Redhen Railcars through the Month of May and November due to fireballs in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Steam will join the mix from June to October, subject to locomotive and crew availability.
