Event Summary: Self Defense with Weapons & Empty Hand : A Fundraising Seminar occurs on Sun, Aug 10, 2025 at 10:00am to 4:30pm
Description: Join us for a powerful day of martial arts training, skill building, and community spirit all for a great cause! Every dollar collected at this amazing fundraising seminar in Moses Lake will go to support the Joni's Angels Martial Arts Scholarship Program - a charity program that pays for economically disadvantaged young people to attend a full year of classes at great martial arts schools free of charge!
The seminar will be presented by Sifu Charlie Hicks, a forty-year veteran martial artist with an instructor-level background in Filipino Martial Arts, Jeet Kune Do, and Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Steve Altfillisch, a master-level instructor in Krav Maga, with a wealth of experience in self-defense against weapons. This dynamic duo will cover self defense techniques against stick attacks (clubs), knife attacks and close-range gun disarming. This the very first fundraising seminar for our new program at Joni's Angels, so we are pulling out all of the stops to make it an historic event! Join us at Freewind Martial Arts in Moses Lake, Washington on August 10th at 10 a.m. You won't regret it!!! GREAT FUN for a GREAT CAUSE. This six-hour event is only $60 dollars for standard registration or you can register as a V.I.P. at the $70 mark and receive one of our hand-crafted, fire-hardened Escrima sticks made by Joni's Angels. Visitors are welcome to drop in and say "hello" and make a donation. Visitors who donate at the $20 level through the link below will also receive one (1) of our hand-crafted Escrima sticks with any donation of $20 or more (while supplies last) and pick up their stick at Freewind Martial Arts on August 10th.
The money raised at this event will be used to fund a qualifying youth student at Freewind Martial Arts for one year. Come and join us and support your local community.

After discovering that our Zeffy payment platform was charging an extra 15% "tip" to our donors without or knowledge... we have switched to the Givebutter platform for the registrations and donations associated with this event.
We will be using THIS platform for the foreseeable future and have made note of all of the registrants that were charged this undisclosed "tip" and will be refunding the extra to you in cash at the seminar. My apologies, and thanks, to the registrants that this happened to. It was presented to us as an "optional tip for Zeffy" and not an automatic charge hat you had to opt out of. I will never use THAT platform again.
Givebutter is up front about their fees … and WE pay them, instead of the platform just passing them along to our donors under the radar - which is what we discovered with Zeffy.
