The Asotin County Library and Moscow Public Library are honored to host programs with New York Times bestselling true crime author Gregg Olsen and Shasta Groene, survivor and subject of his powerful new book, Out of the Woods: A Girl, a Killer, and a Lifelong Struggle to Find the Way Home. The events will take place on Saturday, August 9 at 12:00 pm at the Moscow Library, 110 S. Jefferson St, Moscow and 6:00 pm at the Asotin County Library, 417 Sycamore St, Clarkston. Both events are free and open to the public.
Out of the Woods (available August 1) tells the harrowing true story of the 2005 Groene family murders in rural Idaho, the abduction of Shasta and her brother Dylan, and Shasta’s decades-long journey of survival and reclaiming her voice. For years, Shasta allowed others—therapists, media outlets, even family—to shape her narrative. Branded as “that girl,” she remained silent through whispers, headlines, and speculation. Now, nearly twenty years later, she speaks for herself.
Attendees will hear directly from Shasta and Gregg Olsen as they discuss her story, the writing process, and why telling the truth matters. Books will be for sale at BookPeople of Moscow starting August 1. A book signing will follow the presentations.
