Panto auditions will be held on Tuesday September 30th at 19:45 and Sunday October 5th at 10:00 at De Mortselarij, Rode Leeuwlaan 15, Mortsel.
Actors need to prepare a short monologue (1min) and perform 30 seconds of a song of their choice. Actors may choose not to sing and therefore will be considered for non-singing parts.
Actors may choose to audition together in pairs (no more than two) and therefore present a duologue (1-2 mins) and/or a duet (1 min of equal singing time). I understand sometimes its easier for us to bounce of each other when performing.

Character List
Hero & Companions
👉Brabo (Hero): Can be M/F/X, traditionally a young handsome woman (18–25).
Backstory: Antwerp-born, poor upbringing after being abandoned as a child when parents left for Rome. Raised by Madam Estrella alongside best friend Nello and dog Patrasche. Passionate baker, though now dreams of starting a family and his own bakery.

👉Nello & Patrasche (Hero’s Sidekicks): Nello can be M/F/X. Patrasche is a non-speaking dog role, until must speak but isn’t meant to.
Backstory: Nello originally came to Antwerp to see Rubens’ art, stayed on and became Brabo’s best friend. Less skilled at baking, secretly dreams of becoming an actor. Patrasche barks occasionally but has a dream sequence with a comic song.

Love Interest
👉Marie De Vos (Heroine): Female, 18–25.
Backstory: Tragically lost her mother as a child (her mother vanished on the river). Raised by servants, neglected by her greedy father Maximilian. Gentle, graceful, and educated. Longs for affection and freedom.

Villains
👉Maximilian De Vos (The Merchant, Villain): Male, 40–60.
Backstory: Greedy and cunning like a fox, he seeks to control all trade in Antwerp and become unelected mayor. Cold and manipulative, even towards his daughter Marie.

👉The Giant Antigoon (Villain’s Sidekick): Played by 2 actors (one in suit, one voice-over).
Backstory: A simple-minded but greedy giant. Brought to Antwerp by Maximilian in exchange for coin, a castle, and a maiden. Causes havoc in trade and commerce.

Comedy & Dame
👉Madam Estrella (Dame): Traditionally played by a male actor.
Backstory: Flirtatious widow runs Antwerp’s most successful bakery. Adopted Brabo and Nello as her own. Not fond of Patrasche. Loves a quiet life but always pulled into chaos.

👉Bonkers Benji (Comic): Any.
Backstory: Head of BATS Theatrical Society. Clumsy, high-energy, always getting cues wrong. Loved by children, irritating to adults.

👉Billy & Ben (Comic Duo): Any, duo.
Backstory: Two opposite performers in BATS: Billy is serious, Shakespearean; Ben is over-the-top musical theatre. Constantly bicker, accidentally funny.

👉The Spirit of the Scheldt (Panto Fairy): Female (but open).
Backstory: Guardian spirit of Antwerp’s river, kind and protective, not creepy. Current incarnation is revealed to be Marie’s mother.
