Project 1612 visiting artist Eric Anthony Berdis invites all ages to participate in an “Upstander Community Workshop” on Saturday, August 9th from 1:00-3:00pm. This is a family-friendly event, but children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
An “Upstander” is a person who speak up in support of individuals or a cause. Berdis work centers play and joy for himself and his audience as an act resilience. Through collective art-making events, this workshop aims to evoke moments of advocacy and shared camaraderie for personal, local and global issues at hand. This event is all-ages, children and families are encouraged to attend and participate together!
Make sure to join us that evening for the opening exhibition reception of “Ripples: The 10th Anniversary Invitational”.
Eric Anthony Berdis (Project 1612 Alum 2018) is an artist and educator whose practice celebrates DIY culture, scappiness, risk taking and play for himself and his students to imagine worlds to enter. In a meeting with Project 1612 co-founder Jess Bingham a few years ago, Berdis once said “The best artwork I’ve seen is in garages (later added: yards, uhauls, and warehouses)!”
Eric is honored by this community and credits the success in his career to Project 1612 for taking a risk on him and his hobbyhorses, superheros, ghosts, bugs, scarecrows and oh my so much more. This show feels like coming home.
This event and exhibition are sponsored by Big Picture Peoria.
