Artist Statement:

Chris Kukla is a ceramic artist from Germantown Hills. Thank you for your interest in my art work.

Working with clay is simply fun. We all enjoyed playing with clay (playdoh) when we were young. I just kept enjoying it, and will continue for as long as I can.

The ceramic process is challenging, as there are so many variables to control. I am attracted to the technical aspects of the process. In short, it's complicated, but it's fun at the same time.

My primary focus is functional pottery, although some of my functional work can have sculptural aspects. I do two related firing techniques, primitive and wood firing. Both ways are the oldest forms of producing ceramics.

Pottery in itself offers different stories of the past. I think of what I do as a modern reference and tribute to the ancient craft.
