About the event

Rocks in the Garden: Presentation & Walking Tour of Morristown’s History of Slavery
It can be surprising to some to learn how slavery was entwined into the life and economy of Morris County. Join local historian Michael Snyder for a presentation exploring how history is told, the marginalization of the enslaved, and the commemoration of slavery in this area. A walking tour of nearby sites in Morristown that show this history will follow.

Sites visited will include the Morristown Green, Morristown Presbyterian Church Cemetery & Parish House & Church of the Redeemer.

Michael Snyder is a Rutgers graduate whose masters’ thesis was entitled: The Enslaved Slept Here Too: A Public History of Slavery in Morris County.
