Tricoterie 6.0 avec Susanna Hood, Gabriel Dharmoo et Belinda Campbell

Les évènements des Tricoteries sont organisés en général une fois par mois. Ils me permettent de jouer avec des musiciens.nes que j'aime et avec qui je n'ai jamais eu l'occasion d'improviser, ou très peu. C'est un hommage aux solos et aux trios, des formes musicales que j'apprécie particulièrement.
Les soirées se déroulent en deux parties: la partie solo, qui invite les musiciens.nes à créer en solitaire, une occasion pour parfois développer du nouveau matériel, prendre des risques ou alors continuer dans sa ligne directrice. La deuxième partie est une improvisation à trois.

Installée à Montréal depuis l’automne 2010, Susanna Hood, fondatrice et ancienne directrice artistique de hum, est une virtuose incontournable du monde de la danse et de la musique. Depuis plus d’une décennie, elle se consacre à un travail de synthèse de la voix et du mouvement dans le cadre d’une pratique dynamique de création de performances intimes, sensuelles et à l’état brut. Après un séjour au Toronto Dance Theatre de 1991 à 1995, elle a travaillé comme artiste indépendante et interprété des œuvres de divers chorégraphes, compositeurs, et cinéastes canadiens (dont Tedd Robinson, John Oswald, Nilan Perera et Phillip Barker). Elle s’est produite à plusieurs reprises dans le cadre de spectacles d’improvisation en danse et en musique. Depuis 1991, ses collaborations, ses propres chorégraphies et ses compositions musicales ont été présentées sur scène et à l’écran à Toronto, au Canada et sur la scène internationale.

En tant que vocaliste et artiste interdisciplinaire, la carrière de Gabriel Dharmoo le mène à voyager autour du global, présentant entre autres son solo performatif Anthropologies imaginaires, primé au Amsterdam Fringe Festival (2015) et au SummerWorks Performance Festival (2016). Ses œuvres ont été interprétées à travers le Canada, aux États-Unis, en France, en Allemagne, aux Pays-Bas, en Suisse, en Espagne, en Estonie, en Pologne, en Australie, à Singapour et en Afrique du Sud. Ses compositions ont souvent été primées, notamment par le Prix Jules-Léger 2017 du Conseil des Arts du Canada pour Wanmansho et le Prix Opus de Création de l’année 2018 pour son opéra À chaque ventre son monstre.

Belinda Campbell est une artiste multidisciplinaire qui vit et travaille à Montréal. Son travail investit la musique et le son, la performance des arts visuels, la vidéo, et le dessin. Ayant reçu une formation classique en piano, elle s'intéresse à la musique expérimentale, à l'improvisation libre et à l'improvisation composée. Elle vient de faire paraître un tout nouvel album, Sons secs, mouchoir disponible sur Small Scale Music.

The Tricoteries events are generally organized once a month. They allow me to play with musicians I love and with whom I've never had the opportunity to improvise, or with whom I've rarely improvised. It's a tribute to solos and trios, musical forms I particularly enjoy.
The evenings are divided into two parts: the solo part, which invites musicians to create alone, an opportunity to sometimes develop new material, take risks, or continue along their own path. The second part is a three-person improvisation.

Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based performer, maker and educator in both dance and music, Susanna Hood has devoted her career to synthesizing voice and movement within her dynamic practice, creating intimate, sensual and raw performances both in dance-theatre contexts as well as in the context of improvised music. Founder and former artistic director of interdisciplinary performance company hum dansoundart (2000-2013) her work has been marked by significant collaborations with musical artists Nilan Perera (improvisational duo dialogues; and choreographic musical works still, She’s gone away, Shudder), John Oswald (Spinvolver), and Scott Thomson (as band member of The Rent (repertoire by Steve Lacy) and The Disguises; and as co-creator/performer of The Muted Note – songs and dances setting the poetry of P.K. Page).

Gabriel Dharmoo’s musical practice encompasses composition, vocal improvisation and research. After studying with Éric Morin at Université Laval, he completed studies in composition and analysis at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Serge Provost, graduating with two “Prix avec grande distinction”, the highest honour to be awarded. His works have been performed in Canada, the U.S.A, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Australia, Singapore and South Africa. He was awarded the SOCAN Jan V. Matejcek Award (2016), the Fernand-Lindsay Prix d’Europe composition prize (2011), the Canada Council for the Art Robert Fleming Prize (2011) as well as 6 prizes from the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers. He is an associate composer at the Canadian Music Centre as well as a member of SOCAN and the Canadian League of Composers.

Belinda Campbell is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Montreal. Her work spans music and sound, visual arts performance, video, and drawing. Classically trained in piano, she is interested in experimental music, free improvisation, and composed improvisation. She recently released a new album, Sons secs, mouchoir, on the Small Scale Music label.
