9 octobre lors d’une conférence par Cymene Howe, présentée dans le cadre de l’exposition Espaces Oscillants, autour du rôle que jouent les glaciers sur notre manière de concevoir le temps et l’histoire. Howe discute notamment de plusieurs de ses projets collaboratifs, lesquels visent à commémorer des glaciers en Islande et à travers le monde par le rituel et le rassemblement. Par cette approche, elle souligne les leçons qu’ils peuvent nous enseigner sur la vie et la mort à l’ère de l’Anthropocène.

Cet événement se déroulera en anglais et est gratuit.

Cymene Howe est professeur d’anthropologie et co-fondatrice du programme d’études sur les sciences et les technologies à l’université Rice. Dans ses recherches et sa pratique artistique, elle s’intéresse aux individus, aux écosystèmes, ainsi qu’aux relations entre l’humain et la terre.The Life and Death of Ice with Cymene Howe

Glaciers tell us of the past and the present, archiving histories of climate and revealing our impending climate futures. Join us on 9 October for a talk by Cymene Howe, presented in the context of the exhibition Oscillating Spaces, in which she describes how we can recognize the work that glaciers do to mark time and story. She will discuss a handful of her collaborative initiatives to memorialize glaciers in Iceland and around the world through acts of ritual and gathering. Through this process, Howe believes glaciers also help to teach us about life and death in the anthropocene.

This event will be held in English and is free of charge.

Cymene Howe is a professor of anthropology and co-founder of the Science and Technology Studies Program at Rice University. Her research and creative works are about people, ecosystems, and geohuman relation.
