Hunger Mountain Co-op workers will rally on the bike path directly across from the Co-op 3:30-5:30 pm on Friday 8/15. Please join us to show our management that our community demands livable wages!
We will have signs and refreshments. Just bring yourself, and your friends, family, and neighbors. While we continue to work through contract negotiations, we will be out there during our time off, or during our breaks from work. The goal is create a presence that our management can't ignore.
Here's why we're doing this:
Three months into negotiations for our next contract, Hunger Mountain Co-op's management continues to come to the table with proposals that will not meet the workers' basic needs. We are facing increasing healthcare costs, and management has yet to bring us a proposal that would even cover those costs, much less cover other cost of living increases or allow workers to thrive.
We need our community to turn out and show their support.
We believe that ALL workers deserve a real livable wage. According to MIT's wage calculator, a livable wage in our county is $23.63 per hour. Over 90% of unionized workers at Hunger Mountain Co-op fall below this mark, and our starting wages are currently just $16 per hour. This isn't just about us, but about all workers. We believe strong, fighting unions can raise the bar for everyone.
Management needs to see that our community cares about workers. Please join us and make your voice heard!
