Breaking Open is a developing musical exploring the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene through a deeply human lens. Rather than approaching them as symbols or theology, the work sits with their lived experience, love, grief, devotion, and the choice to remain present in the midst of uncertainty.
This workshop performance will focus on songs from Act One and offers an intimate look at the piece as it continues to take shape. It is a sharing rather than a finished performance, created to be experienced in close community.
The evening will feature Rebecca Fishman as vocalist, Evan Premo as instrumentalist, with singer David Ruffin and pianist J.D. Williams.
Admission is free. Donations are warmly welcomed to support the continued creation of this work.
Please note: This work includes mature themes, including references to sexual violence and a reexamination of Mary’s virginity. May not be suitable for children.
