About the event

A Philosophy of Park Design: The Olmsteds and the Parks of Essex County NEW
"The true value of a park lies not in its size or grandeur, but in the way it allows people to connect with nature and with each other."--Frederick Law Olmsted. Sometimes called the father of modern landscape design, Olmstead is probably best known for creating Central Park. Find out more about Olmsted's philosophy and a few of the many Essex County parks that were designed by him or his sons, who took over his business: Brookdale, Anderson and Glenfield parks in Montclair.

Presented by Maressa McFarlane, archivist of the Essex County Parks System
