Mark your calendars for the annual Sheila’s ride. For those who knew Sheila, she was a staple in the equine community, always supporting those around her, encouraging and helping anywhere she could. Together, with Anthony her loving life partners support, we are going to be raising funds and donating buffs to the cancer treatment centre.
📝history of the event - This annual fundraiser started out in 2018 as the brainchild of two friends who had undergone cancer treatment together. During their treatment, they discovered how comfortable and comforting Buffs were. They wished to share the gift of Buffs with others undergoing treatment, and so hit on the idea of hosting a fundraising trail ride, punnily enough named "Riding in the Buff". With the proceeds they bought Buffs to donate to the cancer treatment centre. The event was a great success, and became a cherished yearly tradition. In 2020 'Riding in the Buff' was renamed 'Sheila's Ride', in memory of longtime horsewoman Sheila Cannon. In 2024, life got busy for one of the original organizers, and she regretfully had to step away from the event. The horse community didn't want to see Sheila's Ride end, so a new group of volunteers stepped forward to ensure that the legacy of Riding in the Buff and Sheila's Ride continues.
