Roll up your sleeves and pick up a brush for a one-of-a-kind community event! Paint the Pavement is an opportunity for the entire community to paint the crosswalk across Elm Avenue (near Borgess) to St. Mary’s Park.
The vibrant mural, designed by local muralist Presley Bermooser, aims to do more than beautify the area. It’s part of a larger initiative to promote arts and culture, foster community pride and enhance safety and visibility for pedestrians.
Funded by the Michigan Fitness Foundation, which supports efforts to create safer, more walkable communities across the state, the crosswalk on Elm is one of seven locations that will be revitalized throughout the City this summer.
Other locations include:
- Two crosswalks from the Riverside Manor neighborhood into Veterans Park
- Four crosswalks at the corner of Elm/Winchester and Dixie Highway
Paint the Pavement will take place ahead of Monroe’s Summer Concert Series, setting the stage for a season of music, creativity and community. Painting supplies will be provided free of charge to all participants, and community members of all ages are encouraged to get involved. Bermooser will be on hand to assist participants.
It’s time to leave your mark on Monroe - one brushstroke at a time.
Traffic note: Elm will be closed to traffic around 2PM for setup and will remain closed for 24 hours following the event to allow time for the paint to dry.
