CHARACTERS:
OSCAR MADISON: (Male 30–50) A New York sportswriter recently divorced. Casual, sloppy, and good-natured, but sarcastic and stubborn.
FELIX UNGAR: (Male, 30–50) A newswriter, newly separated from his wife. Fastidious, neurotic, and hypersensitive, with a compulsive need for cleanliness and order.
MURRAY: (Male, 30–50) A policeman and regular poker player. Warm, friendly, and a bit slow on the uptake. A peacekeeper among the group, with an affable, good-humored presence.
SPEED: (Male, 30–50) One of the poker buddies. Sarcastic, impatient, and blunt — quick to complain but loyal at heart.
ROY: (Male, 30–50) Oscar’s accountant and poker friend. Practical, dry-witted, and straightforward. Often the voice of reason when others spiral out.
VINNIE: (Male, 30–50) The most mild-mannered of the poker friends. Nervous, hesitant, and good-natured. Often caught in the middle, with a softer, gentler energy than the rest.
CECILY PIGEON: (Female, 25–45) The younger of the Pigeon sisters. Sweet, bubbly, and a bit more playful than her sister. Cheerfully flirty and quick to laugh, with a warm, lighthearted energy. Requires a light British accent (not heavy or overly formal).
GWENDOLYN PIGEON: (Female, 25–45) The slightly more reserved of the sisters. Gentle, polite, and soft-spoken, but still fun-loving and giggly. Has a kind, nurturing side. Requires a light British accent (not heavy or overly formal).
THE STORY:
Neil Simon’s classic comedy The Odd Couple tells the story of two mismatched friends who attempt to share an apartment after their marriages fall apart. Oscar Madison, a carefree and sloppy sportswriter, takes in Felix Ungar, a neurotic, obsessively tidy newswriter. Their clashing personalities and living habits turn everyday life into comic chaos, much to the amusement (and exasperation) of their poker buddies and the charming Pigeon sisters who live upstairs.
“The Odd Couple” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
