How can you find inspiration for songs and stories in unusual places? In this creative writing workshop, you will learn how to “harvest” stories from local areas, and experience what tales aglass of whisky and a distillery might hold.
This workshop is for anyone who works with creative writing. Whether you are a novelist, storyteller or songwriter or content developer. Whether you are a beginner, or a professional who is lookingfor new inspiration.
Taking place in the beautiful Moffat Distillery and surrounding area, the workshop is led by award-nominated singer, songwriter and composer Christine Kammerer, who has worked with groups ofall ages and levels, and she is well known for her ability to adapt her teaching to individualstudents. This is also why places for this event are limited.
On this day you will:
- Learn how to draw inspiration for lyrics and stories from local areas and nature. Furthermore, you will learn how to structure that inspiration into a framework that you canwrite from within.
- Work with an unusual object of inspiration. Experience whisky as an example of finding inspiration in places you maybe had not thought about before.
- Learn tools to overcome writer’s block.
- Be introduced to tools, sites, and communities which can help you continue your writingafter the workshop. Kammerer also offers solo lessons.
For a week in the months leading up to the event, Kammerer will spend a Residency at Moffat Distillery, and will share her methods, experiences and productions with the workshop participants - including at the evening concert. Thus, offering a rare insight into her own writing methods and techniques.

CHRISTINE KAMMERER
The songwriting workshop is led by Christine Kammerer. A composer who for decades has drawn inspiration for her music from nature, and her many travels throughout Scotland, Scandinavia and Germany. She has released 2 EP’s, 2 singles, a music video, and her debut album “Echoes of North”: A Symphonic Fusion of the tonalities of Nordic and Celtic folk music.

In 2024 Kammerer finished a Creative Scotland project for the Scottish Crannog Centre, composing music for the new Iron Age village in Dalerb. The project consisted of co-creating a choir composition with Maryhill Integration Network’s “the Joyous Choir”, and composing 8 songs for the museum. Furthermore, Kammerer is co-founder of the critically acclaimed, award-nominated musical whisky experience "Whisky & Witches", and lead singer and composer in the Danish Viking band Jotunger.
For 7 years she has collaborated with several museums, universities and festivals in Scotland and Scandinavia.Throughout her career, Kammerer has graced stages across the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, and USA, in venues such as Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Elsinore Castle, Copenhagen Distillery and the National Museum of Denmark. Performances also include for the Danish Royal Family.
