Amongst the ideals of art, love and the cruel realities of cold winter, BK Opera explores the often-misrepresented themes of classism and creativity in Puccini’s classic opera La Bohème. BK Opera takes audiences deep into the salons and cafés of 1950s Paris through a unique theatrical experience at the Moe Plaza Shopping Centre.
BK Opera gives La Bohème a new intimate and cabaret ambience. A poet, a painter, a musician and a philosopher struggle with life, love and keeping warm in their Latin Quarter garret. Through the eyes of these bohemian battlers, we experience infatuation, heart break, lust, and seduction.
Directed by Kate Millett, recipient of the 2024 OperaChaser Award for Outstanding Director, this production explores the timeless themes of love, art, and loss with fresh eyes—while remaining true to Puccini’s unforgettable score.

Performed in the round, with the audience seated in a U-shape around the cast, the action unfolds just metres away—no stage, no distance—just raw emotion and connection. This immersive setup draws you into the heart of the story, making you feel as though you are living it alongside the characters.
