TRYON is a dynamic and expansive ensemble centered around the compositions of Kellen Mills. Fusing Mills' complex written structures with free improvisation, the ensemble combines classic big band instrumentation with electronics and a touch of humor. The result is a musical experience that can only be described as organized chaos, drawing influences from the likes of Schöneberg, Ligeti, Frank Zappa, Charles Mingus, and Eric Dolphy. However, the music intentionally defies clear genre boundaries, who wants to hear something "boring"!?
The ensemble has released two critically acclaimed albums on Double Moon Records: Läuterung (2022) and Freaky Squash Baby (2023), with a third album slated for release in 2026.
