MoDem is the choreographic language developed by choreographer Roberto Zappalà for his own company, Compagnia Zappalà Danza. The concept behind the workshop is contained in “Omnia Corpora”, essay written by the choreographer himself with considerations and thoughts concerning his approach to choreography and gathering notes and principles on the construction of his creations. The most physical part of the laboratory consists in empowering both body and mind through a powerful and muscular work. The choreographer’s language is based on simple criteria: the connection to the flux, and to harmonies that the body develops thanks to a methodology hinged upon group interaction and contamination.Joints and body sections are selected and stimulated through a process aimed at exploring the countless possibilities possessed by the limbs in order to investigate, reimagine, and multiply body’s inner potential.

Fernando Roldan Ferrer (b. 1984, Spain) is a Spanish dancer and choreographer. He began his training in flamenco and Spanish dance at the Conservatorio de Música y Danza in Almería and later received a scholarship to study contemporary dance at C.A.D. in Seville. Coline in France (2005), he joined the MoDem Atelier program in Catania in 2006, leading to a long-standing collaboration with Compagnia Zappalà Danza as dancer and assistant. He has also worked with companies such as Petranura Danza, Cie. Deja Donné, and Ariella Vidach – Aiep. His choreographic works include Lui/Lei (2011), Seen/Unseen (2013), Nocturno (2014), and Haeresis, created with Alessandro Sollima. He co-starred in the dance film La demiurge and currently serves as director of the MoDem program at Scenario Pubblico CZD – Center of Relevant National Interest.
