FHV Historical Association Monthly Talk - Wings Over the Deep South: More Than Just Donkey Business
This month we are looking up, and taking to the skies with Douglas Anderson. It promises to be an interesting flight!
Think Fish Hoek's aviation legacy starts and ends with naming a couple of donkeys? (Or three?) Think again. A dusty old photograph, a curious mind, and far too much time in the museum archives unearthed a surprisingly airborne history of the Deep South. This talk takes you on a whirlwind journey through unexpected flights of fancy, forgotten feats, and the odd tailwind of destiny ... Turns out, the sky over Fish Hoek has been busier than we thought—and might be again!
Speaker: Douglas Anderson
Date: Thursday, 12 June 2025
Time: 17:00 to begin at 17:30
Venue: Fish Hoek Library side hall - enter through the library doors and the side hall is on the left
Speaker:
Your guide on this unexpected aerial adventure is Douglas Anderson, geochemist, ferroequinologist, and a local history enthusiast with a knack for falling into archival rabbit holes and emerging clutching forgotten facts and slightly tainted trivia. When not digging through dusty boxes, he can be found trying to convince seagulls to reenact early test flights.
