Wake Up!! A call to empowering your teenager with a toolkit for life stress, especially exam stress.
If you’re the parent of a teenager, then you know. Raising teenagers is equal parts frustration and equal parts pride and reward (well, maybe not exactly equal). It can be exhausting and agonising trying to understand their highs and lows. So too is their stress – especially around exam time.
Isn’t it sad, though, that we spend thousands of rands on schooling and extra tuition lessons but seldom deal with the mental health of our children, especially in times of increased stress or anxiety.
Stress in children (and adults alike) is visible in loads of ways, like:
• feeling anxious or down
• Worrying a lot – even about the most minuscule of things
• getting irritable and angry, often irrationally so.
• struggling to sleep
• changes in your eating habits
• having bad thoughts about yourself
• worrying about the future
• losing interest in activities they usually like
• staying in bed, not getting dressed or showering as frequently
• finding it hard to concentrate
• procrastinating
• feeling unwell – like headaches & stomach aches
• Tearful and overly emotional
Although extreme anxiety requires medical intervention, normal stress can be dealt with by creating awareness and providing the right set of tools (a toolkit for life) that will help them cope with the inevitable highs and lows that life throws at them.
Sign your teenager up to my “toolkit for life” workshop that will include:
• Simple Meditation know-how
• What is Mindfulness and how to become more mindful
• Living In the Moment
• Why is it important
• What steals our moments
• The power of breathing
• The power of positive self-talk and manifestation
• How to stop procrastinating
• The impact of digital screens & social media on moods, sleep and confidence
• Visualization & journalling
• Time management & Exam planning
• Choices – becoming more aware of my choices
