More on the Plenary:
This session will feature two presentations on disaster extraction and resilience. The first presentation will demonstrate how Lahaina CLT is using the CLT model to combat predatory post-disaster land grabs (i.e., disaster capitalism), build cross-community solidarity, and rematriate land for indigenous stewardship. The second presentation will share findings from an international research study on how CLTs are engaging in creative, place-based strategies to strengthen disaster resilience. Themes include CLTs as vehicles for Land Back and rematriation, sustainable and disaster-resilient building, community connection, mutual learning across CLT networks, and de-centering land as a commodity while promoting land stewardship.
Presenters: Autumn Ness, Executive Director of Lahaina CLT and Amber Khan, PhD, Disaster Researcher at the University of Washington
