Traffic Ed Scholarship Focus for Hellgate High School Alms Sunday October 19
When Jari Davis raised the idea of a Traffic Ed Scholarship fund for Hellgate HS students in need a few years ago, she was focused on far more than helping students learn how to drive. She knew that these students were helping their families with the burdens of day-to-day life, and if the family couldn’t afford the training for them to be able to drive legally, being pulled into the legal system would have long-lasting consequences. She had a few friends who helped her to get some seed scholarship money, and applications for funding began to come in with the guidance of Hellgate’s Family Resource Center team.
We’ve continued to raise funds – through past Alms Sundays, the Social Concerns Committee, and other individual donors – to make scholarships of up to the $355 (full funding need) available. And each year since, this generosity has often benefited three-plus students in need. These Traffic Ed Scholarships will be the focus of our next Hellgate HS Alms Sunday on October 19.
Scholarships are just one of the ways we lend a hand to our Hellgate student neighbors. If you’d like to learn more about getting involved, please connect with A’Lisa Scott through the church office – she’d appreciate connecting with you.
For the love of our Hellgate neighbors,
The Ven. Dorcie Kafka Dvarishkis
