In celebration of our 100th anniversary, the Minot Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to present the launch of The Nodak Do-Re-Mi’s, a brand-new children’s book by North Dakota artist, musician, and author Max Patzner. The launch event will take place Wednesday, October 29th from 4–6 p.m. in downtown Minot.
The evening begins at 4:00 p.m. at Ascend Wellness (108 S. Main St.) with a social hour, live music and a special book reading. The celebration continues at 4:45 p.m. just next door at Koselig & Robyn’s Place (106 S. Main St.) with treats, book signing, and books available for purchase.
Commissioned by the Minot Symphony Orchestra to commemorate its centennial season, The Nodak Do-Re-Mi’s invites readers of all ages to learn musical terms through a hilariously educational North Dakota lens. The book continues Max’s popular series that includes The Nodak ABC’s and The Nodak 123’s, blending regional pride with creativity and humor.
“Max captures the heart of North Dakota in everything he creates,” said Ellen Fenner, Executive Director. “This collaboration is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate our 100 years of music in the community.”
Copies of the book can be placed on reserve at www.minotsymphony.com or by calling the box office at 701-858-4228 and picked up at Koselig & Robyn’s Place.
About the Artist
A proud North Dakota native, Max Patzner describes himself as “a real-life North Dakota artist, writer, and musician.” For over 15 years, Max has performed across the country with his folk-rock band Wild Hands, releasing five studio albums and earning features on Paste Magazine’s Daytrotter sessions and Prairie Public Television.
Max published his first children’s book, Wild & The Animal Band, in 2020 and has since written several North Dakota-inspired titles. Beyond the page, Max’s vibrant murals can be found throughout Minot and across the state, including the Minot Symphony Orchestra’s own mural, painted earlier this fall in downtown Minot.
The Minot Symphony Orchestra is a unique blend of student, community, and professional musicians from the Minot area. The symphony is directed by Maestro Efraín Amaya, Associate Professor of Performing Arts at Minot State University.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
