About the event

West Broadway Businesses & Residents—Your Property May Be at Risk
Join us for a critical info session with an attorney to learn how the Blue Line could impact your property and how to protect your rights.

About this Event

Are you a North Minneapolis resident, business, or property owner within a 1-mile radius of the proposed Blue Line Light Rail Extension? Your home or business may be at risk—and you may not even know it.

Can the City really take your property or force you to move to build the BLRT? Yes—and it’s called Eminent Domain.

As the Blue Line project approaches 60% design completion, property owners along the route may soon start receiving notices and appraisal visits. If you don’t know your rights, you could end up with a lowball offer and no real plan to fight back.

That’s why The West Broadway Business and Area Coalition (WBC) is hosting a high-stakes public forum featuring attorney Mark Savin & team from Fredrikson & Byron—experts in Eminent Domain law—who will break down exactly what this means for you and how to prepare.

What you'll learn:
  • What eminent domain is, and how the City can use it to acquire your property
  • What to do—and what not to do—when appraisers visit
  • How market value is determined (and why it’s often too low)
  • Legal options to protect your business or home
  • The difference between commercial and residential property rights
  • What support and relocation assistance may be available

This forum is especially critical for commercial property and business owners, who will be heavily impacted—but residential property owners and even tenants renting in homes in the affected area are encouraged to attend as well. There are different laws and protections for each, and this session will cover both.
