Over a dozen Twin Cities arts organizations will come together to present the second annual MN New Theater Conference August 23rd and 24th at the Crane Theater. The event will connect artists through shared interest in creating new works of theatre collaboratively, and it is free for all participants.
“Some call it devised, some call it ensemble theatre,” describes one of the conference’s organizers, Josh Cragun of nimbus theatre. “If you are creating new works as a group, this conference is for you.” Offerings include physical performance and composition workshops, community conversations, and sessions on specialty topics like circus, puppetry, and musical storytelling. Leah Cooper of Wanderlust Productions will present on how to “Go From a Community of Strangers to a Play,” and Kurt Engh of Running Errands will provide a workshop titled “Get Your Coin: Grant Writing for Individuals and Organizations.” The conference will be presented in 90-minute sessions from 10am to 6pm, and in this second year, the conference has doubled its offerings from four to eight sessions per day, meaning that participants will have two sessions to choose from in any given time slot. In addition to nimbus, Wanderlust, and Running Errands, participating companies include Pangea World Theater, The Birth Play Project, Melancholics Anonymous, Off-Leash Area, Phantom Chorus Theatre, Sandbox Theatre, and Transatlantic Love Affair.

The Minnesota New Theater Conference is an annual conference, now in its second year, presented by a collective of Minnesota based ensemble, devised, and community-based theaters engaged in the collaborative creation of new works of performing arts.
