Create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind mosaic with local artist, Sharra Frank! This class will take place in Steller Handcrafted Goods in the Waterbury Building in the NE Minneapolis Arts District.
You will first select a mosaic frame shape from an array of a custom line mosaic substrates made from high grade baltic birch plywood. After an introduction to mosaics, you will select materials from a colorful treasure trove of tile, beads, stained glass, china and more.
This class introduces both technical and artistic skills.
Students will learn:
About the variety of mosaic materials.
About several different adhesives, benefits of each.
Mosaic tools, when and how to use them.
How to cut glass with a wheeled nipper and glass scorer.
How to work with beads of all sizes.
How to cut a piece of china and shape it.
How to create paper tiles using paper under glass.
How to use a special clay product as a grout less mosaic adhesive.
How to design a mosaic with a "WOW" factor.
And more!

Feel free to bring special treasures, jewels, buttons and china to incorporate.
Students will also receive a Mosaic Resource and Materials Guide as well, a PDF download with links to all recommended tools and materials.
Beginner to experienced mosaic students are all welcome!
Your Instructor
Sharra started her mosaic teaching career in 2003 by offering her classes through Minneapolis Community Ed classes and art centers. She then established a private teaching studio creating original and commissioned mosaics. She expanded to online classes in 2011, reaching thousands of students globally. In 2012 Sharra began traveling the US to offer her specialized mosaic workshops at professional mosaic conferences and mosaic schools.
