ABOUT: Colony Collapse Disorder is the phenomenon that occurs when worker bees in a beehive disappear, leaving behind the queen and a handful of nurse bees to care for the remaining larvae. But hives cannot sustain themselves without workers; eventually the food runs out and the remaining bees die.
This mirrors the collapse of human civilizations when war, famine, environmental degradation, and/or disease lead to the rapid loss of technology, the end of ruling dynasties, and the abandonment of cities.
In a rapidly-changing environment characterized by mass extinctions, political discord, ethnic cleansing, neo-colonialism, and the rise of generative AI, the idea of colony collapse disorder seems more relevant than ever.
This exhibition includes 2-D and 3-D artworks by 25 regional artists exploring subjects related to social disorder, societal collapse, space exploration, collectivism, science fiction, capitalism, workers withholding their labor, and (of course) bees and beekeeping.
