Whitewater Double Feature - A Blackwater Story

Join us on Friday, July 11th, for a special screening of Freeland – A Blackwater Story at the breathtaking Concho Overlook. Mountain River Media has just completed their third documentary, a powerful film that delves into the history of West Virginia’s legendary Blackwater River.

Told through the voices of the pioneers who first descended this fabled river in the 1980s, Freeland explores the untamed beauty, relentless power, and deep history of one of the most challenging Class V+ whitewater runs on the East Coast. Spanning 17 miles of nonstop rapids through an inescapable canyon, the Blackwater River is as awe-inspiring as it is unforgiving.

Join Roger Zbel and John Regan as they recount first descents, the naming of rapids, the devastating 1985 flood, and the lives lost to this legendary stretch of water. Experience the stories, the adrenaline, and the reverence for a river that has shaped the history of whitewater paddling in the Mid-Atlantic.
