Join us for an uplifting afternoon of chanting, music, and connection.
Kirtan is a form of vocal meditation where we chant simple mantras together, often in the style of call and response. You don’t need to be able to sing, and no experience is needed — just an open mind and a willing heart. It’s a brilliant way to switch off the noise of everyday life and settle your mind and body.
It also offers a safe container for healthy emotional release. The positive sound vibrations open up space around the throat and heart that allow for greater self expression, freedom and letting go.
Chanting activates the vagus nerve and supports the parasympathetic nervous system (that’s the one responsible for rest and digest), helping to release accumulated tension. The combination of sound, rhythm and breath can bring about a real sense of clarity, calm, and energy all at once.
And just as importantly — it brings people together. There’s something powerful that happens when we use our voices side by side. The shared rhythm, repetition and sound create a genuine sense of energy and community.
After the chanting, we’ll enjoy a cup of tea and a chance to chat — a relaxed way to land back in the moment and connect with each other.
You’ll be led by Julie Preston and Victor Tyrrell — musicians and long-time Kirtan facilitators, who’ve been sharing this practice across Northern Ireland and beyond since 2011. They bring warmth, experience, and a deep passion for this powerful practice.
