Volunteer opportunity: Headstone edging

Join us for a few hours of meaningful service as we honor the past and preserve the memories of our community. The session will begin with a brief demonstration on how to safely use an edging tool to cut out headstones from encroaching dirt and grass. Volunteers will also clear away sod and wash off the surface of the stone.

This opportunity is perfect for large groups from schools, scouts, corporate groups, teams, and anyone needing service hours! This is a great outdoor opportunity in our beautiful Victorian garden cemetery and arboretum.

What to expect:
This work is requires moderate physical effort and includes pushing the edging tool into the earth, prying the dirt up, clearing the clumps of dirt away, spraying the stones with water and wiping the surface of the stone. You may also get dirty.

What to Wear/Bring:

• Comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty.
• Closed-toe shoes
• Gloves, if you wish
• Sunscreen and a hat
• Water bottle

Established in 1850, Forest Home Cemetery is Milwaukee’s oldest-operating cemetery, open to people of all faiths, races and backgrounds since its inception.
