Take your art to the next level.
All ages welcome. Only $5!
No materials needed, just a notebook and a pencil.
Finding the time, energy, and resources needed to work from life in drawing and painting is incredibly difficult. Models, while preferable, are too expensive and have hundreds of nuanced
light and color variations. Historically painters began their training with plaster casts that were composed in ideal light. This was and still is ideal for the young painter; as it provides the subject matter, proper lighting and composition needed for developing a critical eye, while being only white in color.
Master art instructor Major Hughes will be showing how you can effectively create a miniature tabletop studio space. A simple cardboard box can create the ideal working situations that will allow you to study classical drawing and painting methods on your own time. He will discuss good lighting scenarios, how to set up a still life, and what to look for when drawing/painting. There will be several of these boxes on site to work from.
This special class will be followed by an optional 2 additional hours to hone your skills. Come for just the shadow box instruction or stay for the whole time! Only $5/hr.
Please also feel free to join Major on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6 to 9pm to work from the boxes and get personal help in learning how to progress. $5 an hour for these as well!
