Scouting America Kayaking Merit Badge with Ranger Demetirou

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 9 AM, our American Canoe Association (ACA) certified kayaking instructor, Ranger ANDe Demetriou, will lead the Kayaking Merit Badge program on Poplar Tree Lake at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. Scouts can bring their own kayak, paddle, and life jacket or use park-provided gear. This 4-6 hour program combines skill-building with fun, meeting Scouting America requirements in the scenic setting of Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. The session begins with a thorough safety briefing, covering life jacket fitting, kayak handling, and water hazard awareness, ensuring all participants are prepared. Ranger Demetriou will guide the group through hands-on practice, teaching essential strokes like forward, reverse, and pivot maneuvers.
