Who are the hosts for the camp?
Hi, my name is Timothy Winkler. I have been a middle school science teacher since 2002 teaching in Prince Edward County, Chesterfield County and at St. Michael’s for the last ten years. I’ve been a nerd for tabletop gaming ever since the early 90s when I played Heroquest and Dungeons and Dragons for the first time. Over my two and a half decades in the classroom, I have incorporated gaming into my classes and successfully taught many students how to access and enjoy the ttg world.
There are a lot of great benefits to tabletop gaming for young people. Problem solving, social interaction and screen free entertainment are core principles to something like Magic the Gathering. It is my goal along with Battlegrounds to give even more young people a way to enter the hobby through this camp experience. If you have questions about the camp, please feel free to reach out to me directly through email at

Yes, it is expected that all participants will be at the camp for the same reasons, to meet new people and dive into MtG as a gaming experience. We will not tolerate any camper who acts in a way that prevents others from being able to participate in that experience. Battlegrounds reserves the right to remove campers from our roster for behaving in any ways that negatively impact the experience we are offering.
