Beginners Belly Dancing with Savitri

Join us in a basic beginner tribal belly dance for drills! This class focuses on introducing foundational movements and techniques of American Tribal Fusion belly dance, emphasizing posture, isolations, and group improvisation. We start with a warm-up to engage the core and loosen the hips, followed by drills for essential moves like hip shimmies, chest lifts, and undulations, which are broken down into slow, controlled steps to build muscle memory. Students learn to execute these movements with proper alignment, incorporating arm patterns and hand gestures (like floreos) to enhance fluidity and expression. We concluded with a cool-down to stretch and relax the body.

Savitri has studied bellydance from the time she was a young teenager, learning from her mother and through her teacher Palika of Heavy Hips Tribal Bellydance in Santa Cruz. Savitri has preformed in desert dance festival and joined stage with her mother. She taught through the YMCA and other small dance companies, workshops and events.
