What is Rider Skills Lab?
It is skill building on your own motorcycle at a nationally recognized rider training site. RSL will help you to keep your current skills sharp while adding new ones.
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s newest program offering is here at Desert Wind Harley-Davidson with our Riding Academy. Rider Skills Lab, empowers us to configure and tailor classes to meet the unique needs of our students. For recent New Rider Course grads, RSL is a great way to improve your ride, on your own motorcycle. For current riders, RSL can advance your ride, offering new techniques for riders to practice.
A Rider Skills Lab Field Day is an all-day event where you are able to participate in as much or as little of the event as you choose. RSL has licensed riders from new to experienced practicing new techniques and refining their skills. There’s something for everyone.
The links below provide registration for morning or afternoon sessions, but that is just a limitation of the system. Whether you sign up for AM or PM, you are welcome for the entire day. Riders normally rotate in and out of the riding sessions so we are able to keep up to 12 riders in motion at any one time. Other riders have coaching available while they wait for a range space to open and will also have access to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's "Rider Mindset" sessions running in the classroom. The fee for the day is $50. Registration links are at the bottom. ↓↓↓
Key Highlights of RSL
- Customizable Training: RSL utilizes elements from multiple MSF curricula, offering a wide variety of fun and challenging riding exercises to select from. This keeps learning fresh even if you have been through one of our programs before and allows focused practice on specific skills such as braking, tight turns, or cornering. Our skilled Coaches can work with students to select drills and set a pace that is comfortable for the students.
No Pass or Fail: Since this is not a licensing course, there are no tests to take, and no eCourses to complete. We are able to work with individual students at their own pace and at their comfort level. Lots of coaching, minimal coaching, whatever you prefer.
Open Enrollment: Because it’s a non-licensing course, riders are not limited by where they can take an RSL class. However, you will need to have a valid motorcycle license or endorsement, and have current registration and insurance for their motorcycle. Your motorcycle must also pass a basic safety inspection.
