Learners will have the opportunity to apply these principles to clinical situations in an interactive class.OBJECTIVESBy the end of this presentation, you will be able to:Identify patients and family’s education needs.Assess patients and their family’s readiness to learn.Find, access, and navigate patient education resources.Evaluate the effectiveness of patient and family education teaching.Recognize the basic principles of health literacy.Advocate for health literacy and teach back as key-elements of patient safety and care.CONTINUING EDUCATIONThis continuing education (CE) course is offered through Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford by the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider Number 9713.Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).Number of BRN Contact Hours: 3.2 hoursNumber of ANCC Contact Hours: 3.75 hoursOther Medical Professionals:Contact your professional board to determine if they accept continuing education (CE) credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).Earning CE CreditsTo be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.Certificate Issuance and Record KeepingCE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation. Certificates must be retained for four years following the course date and are valid for a single use toward registered nurse license renewal.TARGET AUDIENCEClinical/Registered NursesAnyone who would like to learn more about the basic principles of Health Literacy and the Teach-back method.REGISTRATION and FEESStanford Children's Employees = $50 (plus admin fees)General Admission = $60 (plus admin fees)For Stanford Children's Health Employees:For employment verification, please register using your Stanford work email and employee ID number.The Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&amp;I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through Bright Horizon. Employees must submit proof of completion and receipts upon completion of a course in order to be reimbursed. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation.
