We have a brand-new, in-person book discussion group!
The California Book Group meets quarterly, in person, at Menlo Park Library. We discuss books set in California, or by authors who live in or are from California.
Our September read is I'm Glad My Mom Died, by Jennette McCurdy.
The heartbreaking and hilarious memoir shares McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor (Nickelodeon’s by iCarly and Sam & Cat )—including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother—and how she retook control of her life.
Dave Itzkoff of The New York Times called McCurdy’s memoir "a coming-of-age story that is alternately harrowing and mordantly funny." The book’s publisher calls it “an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.”
