Mendota After Hours: One Family's Journey on the Minnesota Trail of Tears, 1862

The phrase "Minnesota Trail of Tears" describes the forced displacement of the Dakota people from their ancestral lands in Minnesota during the US-Dakota War of 1862. Join Rob Thomas as he guides you through a journey from 1862 to the present day, reflecting on his family's experiences. Discover how he researched his ancestry using various tools and resources to gather information and listen to personal stories from his family that span the last 160 years. His family's journey took them from a village along a bend in the Mississippi River in Southern Minnesota to various places including Morton, Mankato, Fort Snelling, Davenport, IA, Santee, NE, and ultimately back to Minnesota once again.

Rob Thomas is a Dakota Theatre Artist and President of the White Bear Lake Historical Society. He is also the Development Director at the History Theater in St. Paul, MN.
