Intro to Game Creation and Design for Kids

Welcome to Intro to Game and Design for Kids!

Join us on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Whitehaven Public Library for a fun, hands-on Gaming Day! Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) Memphis has partnered with Memphis Dawah Association where kids will dive into the exciting world of game design, learning how coding, art, and creativity all come together to build their very own playable experiences. Through interactive activities, teamwork, and a mix of imagination and tech skills, participants will get a first look into how games are made while exploring the power of storytelling, design, and problem-solving.

To make the day even more impactful, we’re closing with a special 10-minute talk from an Intellectual Property (IP) protection expert. Kids will discover what intellectual property means, how their creative ideas—like game characters, logos, stories, or even secret codes—can be protected, and why it’s important to claim ownership of their work. This kid-friendly guide will cover the basics of copyright, trademarks, patents, and trade secrets, showing how ideas can grow into something bigger and lasting.

This is more than a workshop—it’s a day of discovery, creativity, and empowerment. Whether your child loves to code, draw, invent, or simply play games, they’ll leave with new skills, inspiration, and the knowledge that their ideas are valuable and worth protecting.
