We will be running the ACL Swap format. This format is GREAT for all players - beginners to Pros.
You will play 2 games of rounders with 2 different partners and based SOLEY on YOUR PPR (points per round) you will be placed into a double elimination blind draw bracket. And there is payout in BOTH brackets. So, all the newer players, YOU have a chance to win money.
This format was a GREAT hit at our last venue and to see the improvement trajectory of many of those players in JUST a year is amazing. There is no intimidation, there is no worry of letting your partner down. You will be playing with people who play similar to you in the bracket you end up in. This is a proven path to learning the game and improvement. When we started this format at a different venue, the cut line for the brackets was around 5.5-6.0 PPR. By the time we left that venue, 16 months later, our cut line had moved to 7.2-8.0 with the same group of 40ish folks week in and week out. This shows that the opportunity to play with the more advanced player in rounders and players near you play level in bracket play helps to improve your game. Anyone that has played this game in general will tell you that consistency is key, this format helps to provide that consistency. And let me tell you it is great to watch those beginner players improve and make it to the A bracket for the first time and then to see them win in the A bracket, it is why we do it!
There are nay sayers on the 70%-30% payout and I understand it, but the reality is this format provides a real opportunity to WIN to players that most likely would not have the chance in a regular blind draw unless they draw one of the top 5 players on a particular given night and then that player has to worry about encountering a team containing two of the top ten players. Additionally, this format STOPS sandbagging. There is zero benefit to sandbagging because the payout in the B bracket is only 30%. Imagine this, some directors do a switch where the lower PPRs go home, they are not moved to any bracket.
With all of this being said, this format is well thought out and it is fun. You get to meet new people because you are playing with at least 2-3 different players each time. It is a great opportunity to improve your game. If you are just there for the money, make the A bracket if the 30% in the B is not enough for you.
