The Poetry of War is a theatre-like concert experience weaving music and poetry to reflect on the grief, futility, and long echo of war. Rather than tell a single story, this performance creates space to listen, remember, and reckon—with words by Owen, Sassoon, Farjeon, Redgum, Barry Heard spoken by Melbourne's own beloved actor Dennis Coard. Music by Ravel, Britten, Webern, Crosthwaite, and more.
With poetry as its centrepiece, the music offers atmosphere, pause, and response—sometimes directly linked, sometimes gently reflective. A painted violin, wartime songs, trumpet calls, and silence all become part of the experience.
This is not a political event, but a meditation—an act of communal remembering through sound, text, and stillness.
